Hefeweizen — the Bavarian wheat beer that's always a good idea
Hefeweizen is one of those beers that needs no explanation — you pour it, you smell the banana and clove aroma, you look at the golden hazy liquid in the glass and you just know it's going to be good. Born in Bavaria and brewed with at least 50% wheat malt, hefeweizen owes its character not so much to the ingredients as to the special Bavarian yeast strain that creates the typical fruity and spicy esters during fermentation.
A style with many faces
Classic hefeweizen is light, hazy, and moderately alcoholic — the perfect everyday beer. But the family is larger. Dunkelweizen adds dark malt for a richer, bready character with notes of caramel and banana. Weizenbock increases the alcohol and body, turning wheat beer into something more serious and complex. And Kristallweizen is the filtered version — visually clearer, but with a similar flavor profile.
The perfect glass
Hefeweizen is one of the few styles where the glass really matters. The tall, curved wheat glass is not just a tradition — it holds the foam, concentrates the aromas, and allows the carbonation to play beautifully in the glass. If you're still drinking hefeweizen from a regular glass — it's time for an upgrade.
