About Hofbräuhaus München

Hofbräu München was founded in 1589 by Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria to supply his own court with beer, and over the centuries passed from ducal to royal to state ownership, becoming one of the most famous breweries in the world.

The famous Hofbräuhaus tavern at the Platzl opened to the general public in 1828, when King Ludwig I introduced the so-called "Minuto sale," allowing hospitality service directly at the brewery. Hofbräu is also the birthplace of Oktoberfest beer, and since 2012 has produced over 300,000 hectoliters annually at its modern brewery complex in Munich-Riem.
