Estonian Craft Beers — Põhjala, Anderson's and the Tallinn Craft Scene
Estonia is one of Europe's most exciting craft destinations — a small country with a disproportionately large and ambitious beer scene. Every year, the 100 Beers team visits Tallinn Craft Beer Week to closely monitor what's happening in Estonian craft and keep our collection up-to-date. Over the years, we've worked with a number of Estonian breweries — from Tuletorn and Purtse to the two brands that are a constant presence in our store: Põhjala and Anderson's.
Põhjala — the pride of Tallinn
Põhjala is not just the largest craft brewery in Estonia — it is among the most respected names in European craft. Based in Tallinn, the brewery is primarily known for its dark beers — powerful imperial stout and baltic porter variants, many of which are barrel-aged, have earned cult status among connoisseurs. But Põhjala is far from just dark beer. Their portfolio covers an impressive range of styles — from refreshing lagers and session IPAs to juicy NEIPAs, sour goses and Berliner Weisses, rye ales and even rye wine. They also offer a solid line of non-alcoholic beers, proving that taste doesn't require compromising on alcohol. With their Cellar Series, the brewery offers collectible barrel-aged beers — special series for true connoisseurs.
Anderson's — Estonian craft with character
Anderson's takes a different, but no less interesting approach. Known for their playful names and bold flavor combinations, they offer everything from NEIPAs and sour goses to more unconventional experiments. Their Catch Up! Chili — a sour gose with chili — is an all-time bestseller at 100 Beers and a perfect example of what Anderson's does best: unexpected flavor combinations that just work. Anderson's is proof that the Estonian craft scene isn't limited to one big name — it has depth and variety.
